Total before tax or expenses

$134

1.12 billable hours (67 minutes)

  1. Project work$134

Amounts use billed minutes ÷ 60 × rate, rounded to cents per line. Displayed decimal hours are rounded to two places; the calculation uses the minutes.

How to calculate billable hours

Actual minutes = end time − start time − break minutes. An entry marked as ending the next day adds 24 hours before subtracting the start. Sessions must be no longer than 24 hours; time zones and daylight-saving changes are not applied.

Line amount = billed minutes ÷ 60 × hourly rate. Each line is rounded to cents, then added to the total. A decimal hour is a fraction of 60 minutes: 1 hour 30 minutes is 1.5 hours, not 1.30.

Worked example: 67 minutes at $120 per hour

Working from 9:00 to 10:17 with a 10-minute break leaves 67 minutes. Exact billing gives $134. Rounding up to 6-minute increments bills 72 minutes, or $144. Nearest 6-minute rounding bills 66 minutes, or $132.

Why rounding each entry matters

Two separate 3-minute entries rounded up to 6 minutes each become 12 billed minutes. Combining them before rounding gives 6 minutes. This calculator rounds each entry separately and shows the difference from exact time. Use the method in your client agreement.

How many billable hours do I need each day?

Daily target = billable hour goal ÷ (scheduled workdays − workdays off). For example, 1,900 hours across 230 available days requires 8.26 billable hours per day. On an 8-hour workday that exceeds 100% of available time, even before non-billable work.
